Two ferry services between Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Thoothukudi(India) or Tutticorin (India), and between Talaimannar(Sri Lanka) and Rameswaram (India).
The ferry services were stopped because of the civil war in Sri Lanka.

The Colombo-Thoothukudi service will be the first to commence. The service will later expand to other ports. There would be 4 vessels from India and 3 from Sri Lanka on a daily basis. Each ferry has the capacity to transport around 300 passengers. Passengers are allowed to carry 100kgs.

Travelling time

  • Tuticorin to Colombo – 10 hours
  • Rameswaram to Thalaimannar – 3 hours

The cost of the ferry is about 30% lesser than travel by air. Therefore this is going to be very popular among travellers.
