October to December is the best period for whale watching in Sri Lanka. Southern town of Mirissa is one of the best places in the world to watch Blue whales.

Dolphins are also commonly can be seen in Mirissa. Kalpitiya is the other place to watch whales in Sri Lanka. Not like Mirissa, you do not have to go far to watch Whales in Kalpitiya.

Most of the travel agents in Sri Lanka and overseas can book whale-watching tours. Talk to your travel agent or contact the Sri Lanka Eco Tourism team.

Great post on whale watching. My favorite time of year. When traveling and selecting a whale watching tour company, I always try to pick one that states they are responsible in how they approach whales. Being as close to a whale may be fun for us, but not necessarily to the whales according to research.

I just took a whale watching tour in Costa Rica and liked the professionalism this operator demonstrated. This page on their website explains how they approach whales and why.

Ask your travel agent to ask the whale tour operator.
