Security threats
Currently there are no security threats in Sri Lanka. It is safe to travel all holiday destinations. However, we would like to advice you to avoid Northern part as the areas is currently being re-build after end of the civil war.

Political violence
There are few small-scale politically motivated violence have been reported from Colombo and few other suburbs. These are not impacting tourists and daily life of other people in Sri Lanka.
Public transport
It is not a good idea to depend on public transport in Sri Lanka except train travel to hill country. Our advice is to arrange your transport for the whole holiday period at the time of booking your holiday.

Diseases
There are no major diseases to report in Sri Lanka. Dengue has been the most dangerous disease for the last few years. The disease is slightly under control. No incidents have been reported from overseas visitors.
Warning – hot weather
The western part of Sri Lanka is currently very warm. The average temperature is around 30 – 35C. Carry light clothes. Cotton clothes are the best.
Limitation of currency
Currently there are strict regulations to take money out of Sri Lanka. If you are bringing large amount of money and expected to take them out of the country when you are leaving then make sure to declare the amount on your arrival at the Colombo Airport and take necessary documents from the customs.
Don’t drive
We would like to advice you not to drive in Sri Lanka unless you have previous experience in driving in Sri Lanka. The road rules are not being followed properly at the moment, which could be a problem. However, the Sri Lanka drivers do not how to take you safely to your destination.
Travel advice for elderly people
It is always better to get a travel insurance when you are visiting a tropical country like Sri Lanka.
